Tuesday Talk – Internet on the Road (Unlimited Data)

On Tuesday’s we’d like to answer questions sent to us from viewer’s like you and share some of the details of our Airstream life.

This week we’re discussing how to get and maintain good internet while on the road. We knew internet service was important to us and didn’t want to trust the wireless internet offered at campgrounds (plus we plan to boondock most of the time). So we researched and bought a grandfathered Verizon Wireless Unlimited Data plan back in January of 2016. We used it as our only internet source both in our home and ever since moving into the Airstream. We walk you through why we decided on this route and how we got setup.

Thanks for sharing. I had no idea you could purchase an unlimited data plan from Verizon over ebay. And wow, $1000! I understand why you did your homework before you made the purchase. I guess the risk is that Verizon will decide to terminate the plans at some point or raise the rates to the point that it’s no longer a good deal.

Yup. That’s the risk we assumed when we bought the plan but we decided it was worth it. We haven’t worked out the numbers yet but since we moved into our Airstream in April we’ve been using a LOT of data and if we had enrolled in a standard data plan we would have been more limited or paying through the nose. So we will probably be making up the original plan cost after the first year of use anyway. We shall see what the road brings later on but we’re enjoying it while we can.
