Monday Vlog Day – Vlog 9 – Rewiring, Lightning, Cross Stitch, & Our Squatty Potty

Monday is now Vlog day!!! We’re going to try and give you a sneak peak into our lives every Monday through our Vlog series. Expect these to be full of out-takes and the random going-ons of our Airstream life. Eventually when we start traveling you’ll get glimpses of our campsites, and the gorgeous places we’ll be exploring. For now it’s life in Tucson as we get ready to hit the road.

In this week’s episode a quick rewire of our composting toilet. It’s not good to doubly reverse wires…FYI.  We enjoy the best lightning storm EVER. I share my United States cross stitch & we reveal our Squatty Potty. Meanwhile don’t mind the end…Steve enjoys filming me past when I’m obviously done 😉 Enjoy the view!

Installing our Nature’s Head Composting Toilet in our Airstream

We finally installed our Nature’s Head Composting Toilet into Charlie, our 2005 Airstream Classic. We took video of the entire process so we could it share it with all of you. Hopefully this will help others someday when they go to install a composting toilet.

We walk you through every step of the install process from removing the old toilet, finding constant 12 volt, venting out the wheel well and finally installing the new toilet into our Airstream. We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. No more black tank smell. In fact we haven’t found anything we don’t like about our composting toilet so far.

Stay tuned for an update on how we like it as time goes on and any tips and tricks we come up with along the way! Have any questions? Let us know below!

Painting Plant Pots: A Fun DIY

I wanted to add some more plants and color to the Airstream to make it feel more like home. So we painted plant pots!

A tent camper next to us at the KOA a few months ago left 6 small terracotta plant pots. Rather than let them go into the trash, I grabbed them and have been wanting to do something with them for a while. Finally I got creative with my mother and painted the pots to be colorful and southwestern…perfect for our Airstream decor. Meanwhile we did this on a 112 degree day. OUCH that’s hot!  I’m pretty happy with how they turned out. What do you think?

Saturday Share: Getting Stuck in the Negative (and how to get Unstuck)

Every Saturday I would like to share with you a video I find inspirational. There are so many amazing, enriching resources out there. Hopefully these videos will bring you joy and inspiration!

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to get upset and stay upset about something that goes wrong, but yet you quickly loose the positive high you get when something goes right? Why is that. Alison Ledgerwood decided to find out and shares her findings in this TedTalk. The takeaway is that it IS harder for us to shift from bad to good. We have to actually work harder to see the upside of things. But Alison provides some great ideas on how to train your mind to look for the good instead of the bad and make that transition easier. This is one of the major reasons I try to stay positive on the blog. Negativity begets negativity. So let’s all be positive!

What do you think? How full is that glass to you?

If you have a favorite inspirational YouTube video, I’d love to see it! Contact me at courtney@astreaminlife.com or comment below.

Our Introduction Video

We finally got around to taping an introduction video for our YouTube channel. We tried to condense everything about our journey into a 2 minutes soundbite, which was not easy. We actually got it to less than 2 minutes in the end. We’ll update our introduction as we go on more adventures but I think it represents us well. Take a look and let us know what you think!

Meanwhile we’re looking for ideas for future videos. What would you like to see? We can’t promise many amazing adventures until we hit the road in February but we can show you upgrades to our Airstream, how we store things, our kitchen essentials, and much more. Have an idea or a question? Please let us know!
