Tuesday Talk: Prepping & Planning for Emergencies

Video Description

This week we are answering a question from a viewer about groceries and keeping the Airstream stocked with having such limited space.

Steve hates grocery shopping. So we try to only go about once a week. This was tough in the beginning with our fridge and freezer space being so small but we have learned how to buy fruits and veggies but not have too many. The trick is buying the same thing for different meals. For instance, if we are buying broccoli this week then we buy enough to make 2 meals with broccoli. We buy more of a fewer number of ingredients each week to ensure we have space. It took some time to develop recipes that worked this way but it works great.

We also update our grocery list as we figure out we need something. So as soon as I see the oil is running low it goes on the list. This way we buy it and have it when we actually run out. We can’t count on being near a grocery store so getting something before it runs out is crucial.

There are some cool list apps out there. Google Kepp is a great way to keep lists. You can share them with multiple people and everyone can add and subtract. This way you can actually add things while the person is at the store!

In general, we keep our core carbs: rice, corn tortillas, and dried hashbrowns plus beans in the Airstream at all times. This way we can always cook up something Mexican in a pinch.
