Welcome to our How-To Series. In this video series, we will explain the many how-tos of Airstream Living. From full-time RVing, to travel, to living in a tiny space we will share what we have learned from living this lifestyle. We encourage you to comment below with your own advice on this topic, as well as any other How-Tos you would like to see.
This week’s topic is How To Find Free Camping. We touch on finding free overnight camping at stores or rest areas, to finding places to stay in the wilderness for weeks at a time. For free overnight camping, we rely mostly on the AllStays app which has great information on Walmarts, Cabelas, rest stops and other great spots.
When trying to find free wilderness camping we start our search on Campendium. We also check FreeCampsites.net for more information. Some other places to look are on the National Forest/BLM websites or at local ranger stations. The Rangers have the most up to date information on an area and are a great resource for finding dispersed camping. Another great resource is social media. We follow other full-timers on Youtube and Instagram who enjoy boondocking and make sure to bookmark any spots they show. Lastly, our biggest tip for finding free camping is to have a way to store the information you find. We use a personal Google Map where we store all the interesting free camping spots that we run across.
