This week we are answering a question from a viewer about how we find our often amazing camping spots.
As you all know Courtney is a planner. So the answer is … Courtney!
Haha! We’ll tell you more than that. Courtney uses a few resources to find almost all our camping spots. The first and most used is Campendium. In fact in the description of every single travel video, you will find a Campendium link to where we are staying (in case you are ever curious).
We love Campendium because it is a great site where other RVers leave in-depth reviews. This way we know how the cell signal is in the park which is our number one priority. If it’s a boondocking spot we are checking out we get a good understanding of whether we can fit with the Airstream and how safe the area is. It is our go-to for trustworthy camping reviews.
For all our overnights we use Harvest Hosts if we can. While this means we can’t book these ahead of time (most places only want at most a weeks notice) we have backup plans in case they don’t work out. What better way to split up a driving day than with a winery?
Sometimes out West, we will also use freecampsites.net to find free camping but since the reviews there often aren’t as in-depth we have to be more careful with them. We also use Recreation.gov to book all our state parks (and we prefer state parks over traditional campgrounds) but usually still start at Campendium to get reviews and then click over to recreation.gov to make the reservations.
So that’s how we find camping. What about you? What’s your favorite resource?
