This week we are answering a question from a viewer about what we have found to not be worth the money when camping. We don’t really have an answer that involved objects, instead, it’s more fees and things.

The first thing we often find is not worth the money when camping is campground fees. Privately owned full hookup campgrounds are often a LOT more money than state park or national forest campgrounds in the same area. Yes, you get more amenities but to us often they don’t make up for the cost PLUS most private campgrounds we have been to you have little to no privacy at your campsite. So not only are you paying a lot more money you are also listening and staring at your neighbors the whole, time nature. For us, we prefer boondocking or state park campgrounds almost always.

Another thing that isn’t worth the money if you don’t use them are membership fees. Camping memberships are awesome and can really save you money….but if you don’t use them it’s just a waste. Make sure to know how many times you have to use them to make the cost worth it and get out there and use it! Otherwise, cancel.

The last thing we discussed was if at a full hookup campground we often find having a full hookup site versus a water and electric site is not worth the extra money. Especially is we are showering elsewhere we are not going to need to dump sewer more than 1 time every week to two weeks. So why pay $5 extra a night to have full hookups? That’s a couple brewery visits!
