Video Description
This week in our RV Financials series we continue talking about budgeting for full-time RVing in our effort to answer how much does full-time RVing cost. We focus this week on budgeting for groceries or food costs.
Food is one area where a LOT of us spend a lot more than we realize. When we started tracking our spending (which we highly recommend) as part of our plan to reach financial independence, we were shocked by how much we spent on food every month. After many months of keeping track and being a little more frugal (though still enjoying amazing food), we got our grocery spending down to $350 a month.
Once we moved into the Airstream we continued tracking our spending and saw that $400 a month was a more realistic spending goal given the lack of space in the Airstream and our inability to buy as much in bulk. Little did we know that once we hit the road we’d have to increase once again.
When traveling you do not have access to the same grocery stores you are used to. You cannot shop sales as easily. You cannot always get somewhere to buy in bulk. You also may be in an isolated area where food prices are much higher. Due to all of this, we saw our grocery spending jump from $400 a month to $500.
We are budgeting $500 a month for grocery costs when we hit the road again this year and travel full-time in our Airstream. What about you? How much do you budget for groceries?
