A Day Near Redding then Heading to Mount Shasta (Lots of Lakes!)
In today’s video, we enjoy some lakeside hiking north of Redding California then pack up the Airstream and leave the Wonderland RV Park to head up the mountains. We find a spot at the free Lake Shastina Campground right on the lake. Can’t beat this!

Hey Courtney! The holes going around the tree are made by woodpeckers who are going after bugs. Often are done by the very large pialated woodpecker. We have on whose body Lone is easily 14inches from top of head to base of tail feathers. Enjoying your updates. Would like update on your hitch issues. – – Luisa Sherman
Thanks for the information on the woodpeckers Luisa. We hadn’t realized they’d make that many holes in one tree! Our hitch issues are resolved we think…. we explain in a future video!
Woodpeckers make the holes in trees to cache their nut supply for the winter. Each hole holds one nut. It’s where the woodpecker stores food for the winter. The nuts are gone now because they were eaten over the winter. In the fall the holes will again have nuts for the winter. Holes are good storage.
Thanks Anja! We didn’t realize woodpeckers would make that many holes in one tree! That’s a lot of acorns 🙂
