On this Airstream Life vLog, we decide to check out the opening day the Minnesota State Fair. The State Fair is the one thing everyone we have met here in Minnesota has told us we must do. So we decided to brave the crowds on opening day.
Here are some of the stats on the fair. It was $15 a person to get in though we’ve been told you can discount tickets earlier. Parking can be a nightmare. They have a bunch of free shuttles stops set up all over the area. That is what we decided to do. We arrived around 10am and waited in line to get on a bus. We had to wait for one bus to fill but barely managed to get on the 2nd (standing room only).
Unfortunately for us, there was an accident (with another fair bus) on the highway which shut it down. That meant rerouting and trying to find bus routes to get us back to the fair. We ended up being on the bus for 1.5 hours…. but at least we weren’t on the bus that got hit!
So now we only had 3 hours to explore before we had to get back up to the dogs. We fit in as much food and drink as we could and walked the entire fairgrounds. It was crowded but not too bad. The longest we waited in line for food or drink was about 5 minutes. The State Fair website has a map of all the new food and drinks items for the fair which is what we used to navigate.
Our favorite food was definitely the Shrimp & Grits fritters which were new this year and Steve loved the Strawberry cream ale made special for the fair. Yum!
If we could do it again we would arrive earlier (they have lots open for breakfast!) and try to spend all day there. There is so much to see and do!
