This week we are answering a question from a viewer about being sick in the Airstream while full-time RVing.
Luckily we have not gotten sick too much since we moved into the Airstream over 3 years ago. Most of the time when we get sick it is a cold that lasts a few days and then gets better. During those times we try to be as hygienic as possible to not get the other person sick in such a small space. We clean up all our surfaces as often as possible and pop vitamin c to keep our immune systems up.
Luckily we have our couch and our bed on opposite sides of the Airstream. So if someone is sick enough to be disturbing the other we can sleep on opposite sides and make it a bit better.
Courtney got the stomach flu once while on the road. Luckily it was only a 24-hour bug. She slept on the sofa and used a bag in a bucket when she was sick. The composting toilet is not something you want to be hanging over when you feel ill!
As for medical care while on the road we can go to any doctor, urgent care or emergency room with our healthshare. We haven’t had to yet but it’s comforting to know we can. We try to stay as healthy as possible by eating right, exercising regularly and getting plenty of sleep. Since we can count on 1 hand the number of times either one of us has been ill in the last 3 years it seems to be working pretty well.
