This week we are answering a question from a viewer about staying fit will full-time RVing. As many of you know one of the top 5 mistakes in our first year of traveling in the Airstream was that we didn’t exercise enough and gained some weight. We were both used to going to the gym almost daily before we hit the road. Add in the fact that it is easier to store carbs when traveling around and it made it easy for us to gain a few extra pounds.
To resolve the issue we joined Planet Fitness. Steve is a black card member for $22 a month. For that, he gets access to any Planet Fitness (and there are a LOT of them out there). He also can bring a guest every single time he goes…and you can guess who that guest is. So for $22 a month we both get to work out anywhere in the country, as much as we like and take showers too!
What do we do at the gym? We lift weights primarily. Steve is not into cardio (and honestly neither is Courtney). We do a lot of walking and hiking in our normal explorations so weight lifting is what we do when we get to the gym. We will spend a day working shoulders or back or chest or arms.
How often do we go? If we are camping in an area with a Planet Fitness within 20 minutes we will go almost every day we are there. Why? Because the next week we probably won’t be near one at all. So we push ourselves hard to go and really workout when we have the opportunity and take it easy when we don’t. Courtney makes sure to plan the routes so we have a Planet Fitness around for at least half the time and it works our great!
What do you do to keep fit while on the road? Any tips for us?
