How To Pick A Tow Vehicle for your Travel Trailer & Fifth Wheel RV

Video Description

This week’s topic is How To Pick A Tow Vehicle for your Travel Trailer & Fifth Wheel RV. For anyone new to RVing this is a big question! How do you pick the right vehicle to tow your trailer?

The first thing to consider is towing capacity and the GVWR of the trailer you are planning to tow. Also, make sure to take a look at the GAWR of the tow vehicle (specifically the rear axle) to make sure it can handle the weight of the trailer. This is one reason to possibly consider a dually for a fifth wheel. The GVWR of your trailer will also help determine whether you need a 3/4-ton or 1-ton truck (ie 2500/250 or 3500/350) or something smaller. Make sure to buy enough of a vehicle to get you through any camping/driving you anticipate doing. You’d rather have too much power than not enough.

We also discuss when a car or van is a better option than a truck. Why we think 4 wheel drive is so important and whether a diesel vehicle or an EcoBoost gasser is right for you.
